In 1995, Brazil became a member of the International Organization of Wine and Vine, and the Wine Valley was created in the Gaucho mountains (Vale dos Vinhedos). To date, sparkling Brazilian wines have won awards in many international competitions.
The vintage years of 1999 and 2002 were the best because of climatic factors.
There are other wine-producing regions, like the São Francisco Valley in the northeast and Santa Catarina, where the Vila Francioni winery has exquisite white and red wines.
